Criteria used to sponsor research .pdf INVESTIGATION & TECHNOLOGY: The García Rinaldi Foundation sponsor this year´s research work: "The use of Plavix and aspirin as an anticoagulant for patients with mechanical aortic valves". INVESTIGATION USING PLAVIX During september, Dr. Raúl García-Rinaldi, first puertorrican who became member of the EACTS (European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery), participated on the EACTS 4th Annual Convention, held in Barcelona. He described the study: "The use of Plavix and aspirin as an anticoagulant for patients with mechanical aortic valves". He also discussed the emergency management in patients with coronary disease, using the techniques of heart surgery without cardiopulmonary pump. The participation of Dr. Garcia-Rinaldi in this conference, which brought together more than 4000 surgeons from around the world, was sponsored by Advanced Cardiology Center, Vitalife and the García-Rinaldi Foundation. The study of Plavix and aspirin consisted of a series of 75 patients with a total of 1,720 months tracking equivalent to 143 years without embolic events. This work is of great importance to changing the management of patients with mechanical aortic valves. The presentation of Dr. Raul Garcia-Rinaldi during the conference resulted in an invitation to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota during October 2005. |
